It's been a while since I last updated my blog... we haven’t really been doing much. A couple weeks ago we were playing cards over at Devon and Kim's house and we decided to go shoot off a couple of fireworks. We lit off two or three cherry bombs when the neighbor Mike opened the door and shined a spotlight on us. He cussed us up one side and down the other and in a few munities the sheriff showed up. He told us all about the stupid things he's done and let us off with a warning. He was a pretty nice guy.
Over Labor Day we went camping at Grandma Anne’s house. It was a lot of fun, I brought over the old N64 and we played some Turok. Then we set up our tent, fixed a couple of holes with duct tape, and got a fire going. We roasted hotdogs and marsh mellows... and a couple of happy meal toys, then we got out the ice cream cake and celebrated Kade's 11th birthday. When we actually got to bed around 2:30, our tent was slanted downhill and my pants were sopping wet from running around in the dew so I could only sleep for 1/2 an hour. I went back to the camp fire and got it going again. - pants dry really fast when engulfed in flame - After I got taken care of I fell asleep next to the fire at about 5:30. Everyone got up at about 7:00 and we made some bacon and hotdogs for breakfast. We packed up all the tents and sleeping bags and everyone left around noon.
Kade’s Birthday was the 3rd. He got Soulcalibur IV for Xbox 360 and a waterproof, glow-in-the-dark watch.
Today we went to Cordova Park with Grandma Anne and we walked the trails. It was foggy and wet. When we got back I downloaded a song off of Diablo 3 and Kade went crazy over it... here’s what happened (Video Below... soon)
We've had the Roe's over from Thursday to Sunday, we had so many things we wanted to do but barley enough time. The Roe kids were very inspired by Kade and Megan's movie "The Twisted Tale of Jack Miles" which they watched at Grandma's house, so the first thing they wanted to do was make their own movie. Their movie was much shorter but they packed a lot into that 3 minuets 46 seconds. (Video Below)
On Friday we put Seth to work lining the side of the barn with plywood while the boys played Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii. After that we all went to Jersey Freeze and got some ice cream. The pest part of Friday was the fireworks. Things went down like they normally do.... completely crazy! We started off by letting all the kids light a bunch of little fireworks, once we ran out of all our fountains, bottle rockets, parachutes, bees, chickens, frogs, tanks and helicopters, every one got a sparkler and went crazy. However the madness was far from over, what would a firework show be without a finale? I had already lit off one of these huge rocket propelled accidents waiting to happen when the Neiferts were over last week so I knew how it worked, Hold the wick, lower it in the tube, light the wick, and run. This time I thought it would be a great idea to take both of the provided tubes, put one bomb in each, and light them at the same time! I lit them both, and we all watched as flames shot out of the top of the tubes, and then both bombs blew up, as they are supposed to do. Bright blue, green, and yellow balls of flame flew everywhere, it has been three days, and my right ear is still ringing! The tubes were destroyed, but we still had 10 bombs.... what were we to do? Alan found a piece of PVC pipe that looked to be about the right size for the bombs, so we put the PVC over a metal bar sticking out of the ground that used to be a clothes line. Devon shoved a bomb in and lit it, we all watched anxiously expecting PVC pipe to explode. Flames shot out and the pipe glowed bright red, then a deep explosion sounded and balls of flame shot out the top of the pipe. We decided that the reason the bomb didn't fly out the tube like it was supposed to was that the metal bar the PVC went over was hollow so there was not enough pressure. Alan grabbed a Nerf ball and stuffed it as far as he could into the clothes line pipe, it went in about 1/4 of the way, we put the PVC over it and tried again. BOOM, again it didn't work, we pulled the PVC off the metal bar, the Nerf ball was GONE! Nothing was left but a thick smoke coming out of the hollow bar. There were many more attempts but all failed, we were puzzled, so we did the unthinkable! We looked at the directions! Turns out we were putting them in upside down. In the end we all agree it was more fun this way!
On Saturday we crammed in all the other things we wanted to do before they left. In the morning I went to work, then we went up to Jordan Creek Mall in Des Monies. We went to the Apple store, and got more fudge at Scheels. Seth found a dollar in the parking lot, but there was nothing in the mall cheap enough to spend it on except 3 min. in a message chair. When we got back we immediately went out to eat at the sports page (best steak ever) and from there we went to the movies. We met Devon and Kim there, Verl and Pam went to WALL-E with all the kids and everyone else went to Hancock. When we got home we had just enough time to squeeze in a Roe Tribute! (Video Below)
They left on Sunday the same way they came, having many problems with the cargo topper.
Today Pat and his gang came back to pick up Grandma. Though they didn't stay long, we had just enough time to finish Kade and Megan's movie "The Twisted Tale of Jack Miles" (Video Below) I can't wait to see what kind of crazy videos we'll make when the Roes get here!
Youtube wouldn't let me upload it because it was more than 10 min. long...
Over the past week we have had Pat's Neifert gang over. While they were here we went to the apple store in Des Moines, Ethan bought a 2GB iPod shuffle and I checked out the new Mac Book Pro. Most of the time however was spent burning, melting, lighting, and exploding.
On Wednesday I showed everyone how to make the legendary "The works" bombs. Later we made a relatively big fire and then decided that our little blue wagon had sat in the same spot for way too long so we filled 'er up with gas and watched it melt. On Thursday all the women folk were gone on a walk so we thought it would be the best time to make a real Neifert Tribute, we made a huge "N" out of gasoline and then set it ablaze. Once it had burned out we lit off a bunch of fireworks. When we decided we'd had enough explosions we had to pick up the trash left over... so we piled it up and burned it down. After that we made a torch out of a long stick and some old rags, and lets not forget the all-too-important gasoline. Once the ladies all got home we lit off our biggest firework and then took some family pictures. Below is a video of the Neifert Tribute.
Kade and Megan put together a murder mystery which I video taped, we spent hours getting everything just right, however we didn't have enough time to get it finished. In the end we had more bloopers than actual footage. (Video Below)
They all left Friday morning but forgot Grandma... they'll be back to get her Sunday afternoon.
